{"id":40,"count":20,"description":"Halliwick is a hydrotherapy concept developed in 1950 as a swimming method for people with special needs. It uses the buoyancy of the water to support the mobility and stability of the trunk. Thereby the Halliwick concept is a constraint-induced movement therapy. The Halliwick concept consist of water specific therapy (WST) and a ten point pragramme, which focuses on the control over rotations around various axis of the body, to create a core stability. By using the Halliwick concept you're using an problem solving method. The possibilities and constraints of the patient are analysed to help the clients functions and independence.\r\nAdvantages which the hydrotherapy method provides\r\nThe Halliwick concept can be usefull because of the following advantages:\r\n\r\n \tBreath control.\r\n \tMobility and stability of the joints.\r\n \tMuscle strength and endurance.\r\n \tNormalizing muscle tone.\r\n \tInvoluntary movement reactions.\r\n \tControl of voluntary movement functions.\r\n \tGait.\r\n \tMental adjustment to water.\r\n\r\nThere are different areas which can be improved through groep sessions:\r\n\r\n \tSocial skills\r\n \tCommunication\r\n \tlearning ability\r\n \tPsychological well being\r\n \tSelf-esteem\r\n\r\nThe ten point programme\r\n\r\n \tMental Adjustment (MA)\r\n \tSagittal Rotation Control (SRC)\r\n \tTransversal Rotation Control (TRC)\r\n \tLongitudinal Rotation Control (LRC)\r\n \tCombined Rotation Control (CRC)\r\n \tUpthrust or Mental Inversion (MI)\r\n \tBalance In Stillness (BIS)\r\n \tTurbulent Gliding (TG)\r\n \tSimple Progression (SP)\r\n \tBasic halliwick Movement (BM)\r\n\r\nThese steps shouldn't be used as a sequence but rather as a guideline. The aim of this expansion was to develop a therapeutic method for adults with Orthopaedic, Rheumatologie and Neurological conditions. WTS is used to treat impairments body functions or structure.
